The German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) takes the protection of your personal data very seriously. We process personal data collected when you visit our websites in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

INFORMATION ON THE COLLECTION OF PERSONAL DATA

General

IDOS processes personal data exclusively in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG).

Cookies

When you visit the website, small text files called "cookies" are stored on your computer. They serve to make the online presence more user-friendly and effective overall. Cookies cannot run programs or infect your computer with viruses.

The website uses cookies that are automatically deleted as soon as the browser on which the page is viewed is closed (so-called temporary cookies or session cookies). This type of cookie makes it possible to assign different requests from a browser to a session and to recognize the browser when you visit the website again (session ID).

The following cookies are used:

Mandatory cookies: These are technically necessary. Without these cookies, the functionality of the website cannot be ensured.

Tracking cookies: By clicking on "Tracking", you agree that your visit to this website will be recorded by the web statistics tool Matomo. The information generated by the cookie is used exclusively for statistical purposes and to improve the website and the server. No personal data will be stored or passed on to third parties. Users can opt-out of tracking by Matomo at any time.

Web analysis "Matomo"

We use "Matomo" to analyze visitor data. The data is stored on servers of our processor Hetzner Online GmbH. The data is stored and analyzed completely anonymously.

The information generated by the cookie is used exclusively for statistical purposes and to improve the website. No personal data will be stored or passed on to third parties.

The data generated by "Matomo" is processed and stored by Hetzner online on behalf of IDOS exclusively in Germany.

To ensure data protection, a data processing agreement has been concluded with Hetzner online in accordance with Art. 28 GDPR.

Collection of personal data when you visit our website

When you visit the website, the browser used automatically transmits data, which is stored in a log file. IDOS only processes the data that is technically necessary to display the website correctly and to ensure stability and security. 

In detail, the following data is stored:

  • IP address of the computer
  • Date and time of access
  • Name and URL of the retrieved data
  • Amount of data transferred
  • Message whether the retrieval was successful
  • Identification data of the browser and operating system used
  • Website from which access is made

The data in the log file is anonymized after five days and deleted after ninety days.

Processing of personal data when using the contact form

If you contact IDOS by e-mail or via the contact form, we will process your personal data to process the enquiry. The entry of your personal data is voluntary. We process your personal data on the basis of your consent, which you give by submitting the data (Article 6 (1) (a) GDPR).

Learn more about data storage and sharing

IDOS is obliged to store the data beyond the time of the visit in order to ensure protection against attacks on the internet infrastructure and communication technology (Art. 6 (1) (e) GDPR). In the event of attacks on communication technology, this data is analysed and used to initiate legal and criminal proceedings.

Data logged when accessing the website will only be transmitted to third parties if there is a legal obligation to do so or if the disclosure is necessary for law enforcement in the event of attacks on communication technology. 

„My Collection“ Document Store

Documents marked for "My Collection" are stored in your browser's local storage. As a result, they can only be accessed by the user if he uses the same browser and does not empty the local storage. Only the IDs of the documents are stored. No further data is stored.

Transfer to third parties

IDOS does not transfer personal data to third parties unless it is required to do so by law. IDOS does not transfer personal data to third countries

Duration of data storage

Users' data will not be kept for longer than is necessary for the purpose for which it is processed or required by law.

Rights of data subjects

Data subjects have the right to

  • Receive information about your data stored by us (Art. 15 GDPR)
  • to the correction of your data stored by us (Art. 16 GDPR)
  • Have your data stored by us deleted (Art. 17 GDPR)
  • to restrict the processing of your data stored by us (Art. 18 GDPR)
  • Object to the storage of their data if personal data is processed on the basis of Art. 6 (1) (f) and € GDPR (Art. 21 GDPR)
  • To receive your personal data from the controller in a commonly used and machine-readable format so that it can potentially be transmitted to another controller (right to data portability, Art. 20 GDPR).
  • Withdraw your consent if the data has been processed on the basis of consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR). The lawfulness of the processing based on the consent given remains unaffected until receipt of the revocation.
  • Users also have the right under Art. 77 GDPR to complain to the competent data protection supervisory authority. The competent authority is the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI)
